The GBS Mutual Bank, established in 1877, is one of the oldest banking institutions in South Africa. The head office is situated in Grahamstown with an established branch office in Cape Town. The Bank is also represented by agencies in several cities and towns elsewhere in South Africa, predominately in the Eastern Cape.

The Bank offers very competitive rates on its investment products, while the expansion of its assets is maintained through the provision of mortgage finance (both small commercial and residential) and asset based finance.

The Bank accepts its social responsibilities by being a regular and proactive contributor to projects designed to improve the quality of life of people in our city and its surrounding areas. As a founding member of the Rhodes University Commerce Foundation Program, the Bank assists deserving candidates from Grahamstown disadvantaged areas with their studies. The Bank also assists small to medium enterprises (SME's) startups through its involvement with the Rhodes University Center of Entrepreneurship.

Quote from the Chairman:
"This year we are proud to report that our assets now exceed the R1-billion mark, a target we set ourselves in 2007. We believe that our growth can be largely attributed to the enduring ethos of the Bank and the succession of dedicated Boards of Directors, staff and agents, who have upheld our core principles and, most importantly, to a very loyal client base.
We are very proud to have achieved this growth and we record our thanks and appreciation to past and present Directors, staff, agents and clients who contributed to achieve this milestone."
